About six and a half years ago we started theITbaby. The aim was mostly to simplify baby existence with bullet points of what was and what was not useful to have or worry about.
That doesn’t sell, although we were seeing quite a decent amount of traffic, sometimes in the 100K range and that was cool. Amazon referral money around Christmas was Christmas present money.
Adsense never knew what to do with us as I wasn’t actively trying to sell anything, pointed people to Costco quite often, and cursed like a sailor occasionally.
Domain authority suffered as I wasn’t going to pay for back links, we lost a steady stream of income when YouTube switched to having to have so many thousand followers, and basically financially it was ok but nothing to write home about.
Your kid wants to play with an iPad, you need to make them move as well, they probably want to move but your fears are keeping them from running around, and you’re not going to screw your kid up by letting them wind down with something they’re not addicted to, don’t build cults to do my bidding.
I’m at a point where I’m out of ideas. My 6yo does and is interested in the same things she has been for a couple of years, my 3yo is her own highly self directed tiny person who doesn’t have any of the issues that the 6yo had.
And kid tech seems to be about the same. Keep them off this, get rid of that screen, here’s a screenless this that or the other, here’s a study backing up whatever that compared obesity rates in kids who live in tribes and walk everywhere to kids who are told they’ll die if they step foot outside the house. Not much has changed. Reaction to the scare products.
I get offered paid placements of baby advice on a fairly regular basis. It’s an interesting business. I think the idea is the advice and Adsense and other networks work together to form a neat packaged delivery of content and advertising which few control on a granular level.
Man I’m wandering – stomach issue going on tonight. Anyway, where was I… oh yes, I’ve got this established website, contacts, and really at this point don’t know what to do with it. No, not doing that.
