We’ve had our issues for the past two years with Maggie in preschool and pre-k, and about a month back she had to go in for a kindergarten evaluation for Metro schools in Nashville. This is a standard thing, however we were not allowed to go back with her and she was back there forever (far longer than any other child before us).
Things seemed to go on ok, I believe the person said she was a fascinating child (fascinating enough to be back there over half an hour when everyone else was in and out in under 10).
We had concerns going in to school, but things seemed ok. Teacher seemed nice. There was really nothing all that concerning until the fourth day of class when Maggie returned with a folder and it had her name and two of the letter i next to it.
Kim wondering what that was looked something up and found out that “I” was standard, “II” was bottom 5%, “III” required severe remedial, “IIII” was special needs, etc. What had happened?
Had our kindergartener jumped on the table at the evaluation and started singing “poopy in my diaper?” This existed entirely as a possibility and we wondered if we were going to have to get a tutor and the behavioral therapist involved. It put quite a damper on the weekend and seemed like we were starting kindergarten out right where pre-K left off.
Kim finally emailed the teacher asking what section 2 was as she was wondering if she was going to have to work on anything as Maggie had had pre-K issues.
A couple of hours later the teacher shot back an email and I heard a laugh.
It was her cubby number: Eleven.
