Keep little hands off danger with the Sentry Safe Biometric Quick Access Pistol Safe

Sentry Safe Biometric Quick Access Pistol SafeThe Sentry Safe Biometric Quick Access Pistol Safe is good for the gun owner with kids who does not want their kids, or any burglars to have access to their firearms or perhaps medication that might be needed to be kept secure.

It is a tough steel safe with a whisper opening mechanism and can be unlocked with a registered fingerprint in a little over one second and about two seconds when using the keypad or one of the two included Ace keys.

There are two bolts should you wish to anchor this into the wall, a desk, or I guess in a car if you’re into heavy modification like that.

With interior dimensions of 2.2 in x 9.7 in x 6.6 in you could fit a couple of guns and an EpiPen or any medication you might need in an instant to save your or someone else’s life that you need to keep away from kiddos/uncle Frank.

I didn’t grab a hammer and go to town on the safe as I was not sure what the company would think of hammer damage, but I don’t think you’re going to get into this without a fight. That’s significantly more effort than a child is going to be able to expend without you getting wise.

If you’ve got a gun owning significant other whose argument for leaving firearms in out of reach places on the belief that shorty isn’t going to be able to get to them and that they might be required to grab, point, shoot someone coming through the door, don’t count out a kid’s ability to climb, use tools, and otherwise get to the thing they were told not to get to.

In October of 2016 over 50 incidents had already been reported that year of toddlers finding firearms and shooting them. This is toddlers, not kids, not walkers, not young adults, the littlest things that can hold a gun are finding and shooting guns.

That’s not taking into account the kids who are taking their parent’s well-hidden firearms into school because it’s cool. So yeah, maybe consider if you’re not getting rid of guns get them into something a kid can’t but you can in a second or two.

Opening the Sentry Safe Biometric Quick Access Pistol Safe

I did a little video of several opening attempts of the Sentry Safe. I didn’t attempt to perfect my method of opening, nor did I choose a particularly difficult code. For this I used my left index finger and my left thumb. I also used a code of 4321.

Something to note is that the safe has to be woken up. This is accomplished by pressing a button or swiping your finger. As near as I can tell to wake the safe up takes somewhere in he neighborhood of a quarter of a second.

I had several failed attempts at entering the code due to the wakeup delay. I had nowhere near the issues I did with the code when I swiped my fingers and used biometric identification which is good because that’s pretty much what I wanted to test.

The method should be tap a button or swipe to wake the safe up. Wait a quarter of a second, swipe finger or enter code. You’ll see me not do that many times and still manage to get the safe open within a few seconds.

The code and the fingers you ue are up to you. It’ not particularly difficult to change either, although registering a new fingerprint does take a minute or so as you want to swipe it quite a bit.

The Sentry Safe Biometric Quick Access Pistol Safe in use

While I’m not going to advise turning the video all that much up as I think I coughed a couple of times in it, the safe doesn’t open whisper quiet. It sounds like the hatchback of my 2007 Honda Element when it’s opening up. I think the release mechanism might be whisper quiet but the hydraulics whisper at a low yell.

To open silently you have to put you hand about a quarter inch over the thing and unlock it and then slowly ease up and there’s still going to be some noise.

This probably isn’t a huge dealbreaker, but it does alert someone that a gun safe has been opened.

If you’re planning on mounting the safe somewhere be aware it’s 12 pounds of steel and it will break a toe if you drop it. Make sure to drill out holes and such if you’re wall mounting or even just moving it.

It’s got a nice rubberish mat in the background so you’re not going to clank putting metal in.

Issues with the Biometric Sentry Safe

The safe can only store two fingerprints in it which means you have to remember what your locking finger is and can only have one if you want to share with your S/O. Only one unlock code can be registered as well.

Whisper quiet is a fairly loud whisper.

Having worked at a gameroom in the past something about that Ace lock doesn’t seem right… I’m not sure whether they’ve done something new to them, that’s a cheap or expensive one, or what, but that’s probably the first line of attack if someone walks out with your safe. So make sure they don’t by bolting it down somewhere.

Overall

Pretty good safe. Decent price. can fit several items if you want. Issues are surmountable. Should stop any kids from becoming a weapon holder.
