Backing up your photos and contacts is probably something you have to consciously remember to do unless you’ve set up a sync and verify app. Cloud syncing your phone generally requires a storage location and WiFi or cell signal. With a MEEM cable for Android or iOS you don’t have to even think about backing up because it does it to the cable’s built in storage every time you charge your phone.
Now, if you cloud sync, have an unlimited data connection, chances are this is not for you. If however you’ve got a data cap, have to remember to back up photos on a regular basis, and don’t want all your contacts and photos stored in the cloud, this might solve your problems.
I happen to be in the former camp, however I appreciate the beautiful simplicity of a device that just does it every time you plug it in.
The MEEM uses your USB power source, meaning you can plug it into a car adapter or a USB wall plug that came with your phone. This means you take it anywhere you would charge and you can charge and back up anywhere.
If you left it in the car and it got stolen, the data is password protected so nobody’s going to be messing with your contacts and kid’s photos. Your phone dies? You can restore photos, contacts, music, videos, etc.
You can also sync or backup multiple phones, although the storage on these things is a bit tight and looks to be aimed at single users at the moment.
Great concept for a device, even works with a Micro USB to USB C adapter plugged into it to work on my non Micro USB Android phone. Just wish the price were a little lower (which it will be soon enough I’m sure).
