I’ve been a bit under the weather this weekend and so had Maggie, but she was bouncing back a lot faster than I was and seemed fine when she went to daycare yesterday. Honestly, full night sleep, woke and was bright eyed and bushy tailed, seemed to be completely over whatever foul lung demon I still was in the grips of.
I worked for a couple of hours that day at work and had to call it quits. I’d slept almost 10 hours the night before but I felt like I hadn’t slept a wink and people were telling me I looked like I felt.
I left fairly early having accomplished next to nothing but at least secure in the idea that I was going home to sleep. I stopped for a second and thought “what’s going to happen to prevent this?” and the phone rang.
The woman on the phone was from Maggie’s daycare, and she said she had three really bad diuretic diapers so she was getting tossed from daycare. I gave up on the idea that I was going to get to sleep anytime soon, told them I was going to head that direction in 13 minutes (finishing up something timed,) and thought of that Nyquil Sick Day commercial and wondered if I could perhaps curl up in some spot, put on protective headgear, and sleep with the sick toddler.
The great thing about having a sinus issue for me is the complete lack of smell, dirty diapers don’t hold much power over someone who can’t smell them. I was ready for this shitastrophy, however I was not feeling up to giving Maggie the attention she really should be getting. I’d just muddle through I resolved.
I got another call as I was about to leave. It wasn’t my baby. It was the only other white female baby in the class. I guess we all do look alike at that daycare.
I got home, slept infinity, woke up and got Maggie, was able to be something better than a lump of dad for her, and then put her down for a 12-hour nap which she slept straight through.
