About two weeks ago ITMama threw her back out. From what I could tell it was a deep muscle strain, but the result was she was unable to lift Maggie without extreme pain and I was left to do most of the lifting.
This would have been fine in most circumstances, however my back’s been crappy for a while due to two discs deciding to go their separate ways and the resultant physical therapy that having a baby has undone.
After Kim was able to pick the baby up again, my back went out. It’s given me a lot to think about in terms of how to handle a little rugrat who wants to be picked up, weighs 26 pounds, and is murder on the back.
I came up with several ways to use one arm to sort of walk myself up my body in standing up with a baby. Also rediscovered the straight back crouch and how one can bounce in a crouch. Finally also figured out a way to lay a baby flat in a crib that’s over two feet deep, although I did have to remove a mobile to do this.
Since then I’ve mostly embarked on a gut-losing diet. Holding a baby every day that gets heavier and heavier has caused my arm muscles to bulk up, which unfortunately caused my lower back to have to carry my now baby-enhanced guns. The waist has stayed its normal chunky guy middle, perhaps a bit chubbier due to less aerobic exercise, but I still pinch about the same sad level of chunk.
I’ve got to get this taken care of asap because it hits when sickness hits… basically if one thing happens they all happen… if one of our backs goes out, the baby’s going to be home a week due to funk and exceptionally clingy.
Ehhh… random musings as I decide I’m not interested in making another geeky onesie post this afternoon.
