A couple of weeks ago after a Chica show that had been recorded finished playing, Maggie scootched over, grabbed the remote as she’s prone to do, started pressing numbers and up popped an On Demand menu we’d never seen before with the Kardashian Sex Tape.
It was odd, and a search menu I had not seen before. Generally the search bar is over in the right side of the TV, and the on-demand menus don’t look like that. They’re usually multi-tiered and have a box-cover look for each entry.
I got the remote from her and exited the menu to get back to her program and didn’t think about it until later when I decided to try and figure out what she had done, and failed. I tried every menu I could locate and all the buttons that she could have pressed and didn’t get far. I can locate adult menus, but they’re not what she got.
A couple of days ago we were watching the Chica Show, pre-recorded, and it finished. We usually watch a 12 minute episode and a little bit of Sprout while Maggie is having her morning milk or eating. It tends to keep her focused.
At the finish point, not really paying any attention to the TV, I hit the D button on the remote to delete the viewed Chica episode, pressed ok/enter, punched in the Sprout channel number while talking to Maggie, looked up and bam – Kardashian Sex Tape.
Baby wasn’t scarred for life, nor did we get charged or see anything, but if it’s something a 15-month-old can accidentally stumble on and a 41 year old computer technician can’t figure out how to locate, it’s probably something your kids are going to stumble into innocently as within two weeks both me and baby found the on demand sex tape menu.
Parental controls probably would stop kids from viewing, but not sure if they’d block a search and some uncomfortable questions later on.
Mommy, what’s a sex tape and why does that woman you watch all the time have two?
The main question I have though is what would a baby randomly hit and what would I hit that pulls up the instant porn on demand search. The sequence of keys I pressed to delete a show and go to Sprout were: D enter/ok 1505.
While the 5 is a K on the keypad, and I’ll accept that perhaps the 1 got dropped, getting to the instant porn search with maybe 1 or 2 key presses is quite odd. Maggie however doesn’t know the Sprout channel’s number, so chances of her pressing the same general sequence as I did are pretty darn low.
On a random tangent, Keeping up with the Kardashians is on the E! network, E! is owned by NBC/Universal, NBC/Universal is owned by Comcast, Xfinity (the box that I’m seeing this on,) is Comcast’s project. You’d think with Kim saying that it was a humiliating experience she might want to, you know, tell her work that having it available should be stopped.
Whatever the case, the quick pop up porn menu is absurdly easy to accidentally get into – so easy a baby got into it, and I found it by trying to delete a viewed program then go to Sprout.
