Playtex 2 Piece Ortho-Pro Latex Pacifier review

Playtex 2 Piece Ortho-Pro Latex PacifierSomething I just recently learned is you cannot review these as works, doesn’t work, only as works or doesn’t for your baby. My baby despises the Playtex 2 Piece Ortho-Pro Latex Pacifier set we purchased her, but that’s because she doesn’t like anything except MAM pacifiers.

So, rather than going on about how it’s useless, I’ll just point out that your baby wants what your baby wants and sometimes you’re going to get a pacifier, like this one to my baby, that your baby will learn to spit and hurl at distances.

What’s in the box

  • reusable travel carry case you probably will never use
  • two pacifiers with folding handle

My initial impression of these things were they looked cheap and rinky dink, but that doesn’t seem to be the case (other than they look it.) The folding handle can put up with adult-strength attempting to pull it off, and the thing bounces back from most force you deal it.

The travel box, I’ve found at least, is a useless concept. You strap one pacifier to the kid, you throw one in a bag, and you pray you don’t lose them. Now, one of the things with the pacifier boxes are usually you can microwave them. What you discover as either a parent, a microbiologist, or a hippy, is that simply washing the pacifier in soap gets rid of anything you need to be worried about.

The actual pacification prong/nubbin/nipple whatever is shaped like a fingernail or an upside down spoon as opposed to a nipple. This seems to interfere with my baby holding it in her mouth, but it does add great aerodynamics to the thing as it goes soaring out of her mouth.

There are also no bumpy things on the mouth guard. I’ve never been exactly sure what those bumpy things were for other than texture, but without them my baby doesn’t want to chow down on some pacifier.

So here’s the thing, the build of these things is excellent. They come in at about $6 at Kroger and in a pinch, which is what I was in when I picked one up, they’ve everywhere. Unfortunately for me, it was a useless purchase, at least for my 4.5 month old.

If it’s your baby’s thing, let me know, but as it is I think the nipple length is slightly too short, the shape is personal preference but doesn’t work for my baby, the lack of bumpy things on the guard tend to not interest my baby.

I honestly wish I could get a picture of the face she makes when spitting this out… it’s kind of hilarious.

Were I to break it down, 5 for construction, 2 for idea / innovation.

You can pick the Playtex 2 Piece Ortho-Pro Latex Pacifier up at most Kroger stores, or Amazon for $5.99
