After the recent scandal involving a Foscam baby monitor being hacked and yelling at a sleeping baby you might think they would have issued a statement saying they were fixed, or recalled them to update the firmware, or you know mentioned on their website that it’s vital you update the camera firmware otherwise you’re going to have a hacked baby monitor.
But no. Instead we find them at 56% off on Woot.com with no mentions of the disembodied voice screaming at a child, which while I dislike any company that attempts to shovel off their wares rather than own up to an incredibly hackable whoozimabob, the fact does remain that that’s a pretty decent deal for a two-way audio infrared smartphone controllable baby monitor.
If you’re planning on getting one of these, make absolutely sure you’re good with downloading and updating the firmware to the newest version which keeps people from randomly being able to control your camera. And considering how exposed you make yourself when you put these out there, make sure you’ve got some basic networking knowledge for tracking who’s connecting to your camera.
