Gerber Good Start Soothe formula is about average for formula as far as I can tell, if not slightly below average for my baby. Now, I realize everyone’s baby is different, but since this has been introduced due to getting a free can of it, there’ve been an increase in the number of mini-barfs coming out of my child.
It doesn’t exactly seem to bother her, but when she’s fed this as opposed to any of the other we have laying about, there will be some spewage coming back. Not a lot, but nasty and viscous. However, that may just be my child, so I’m going to pick on this particular formula for what it fails at.
Gerber Good Start Soothe formula fail
It may not be evident in this picture, or on Amazon for that matter, but the 12.4oz can is pretty narrow. To combat this and aid in scooping they made an extra-deep skinny scoop with a very long handle.
They attempted to be neat and make it so that the scoop would be sitting at the top of the formula when you opened it by attaching it to a giant disc that you pop it out of. Unfortunately my disc was buried about a quarter of the distance into the can, so I had to dig to locate the scoop as you’re really not supposed to swap scoops between formulas. This meant pulling a very large plastic piece up through powdered formula. Messy.
Due possibly to the scoop being deeper, I also end up losing some of the formula around the bottle I’m pouring into every single time.
Gerber Good Start Soothe doesn’t
The claim, which is BS on any can you get from any manufacturer, is that it’s good for crying, colic, and fussiness. Yeah, food is good for that. Unfortunately, at least with my baby, it really hasn’t done anything noticeable and I’m about through the can.
Now, don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying the formula is bad. I’m saying it’s got the same effects as any other formula I’ve purchased and for a little more than the same price. Your baby’s stomach will vary, however I don’t think many people will disagree that the scoop this comes with is terrible.
They should have made the small cans short and fat with a more normal scoop, would have made the thing average as opposed to below average in my opinion.
However, your baby will vary.
Gerber Good Start Soothe formula is available from Amazon for $7.99 in the 12.4oz variety, or you can get it for $24.00 for 23.2 oz packs. I’d advise picking up at Target or Walmart as shipping seems to be absurd. And yes, the smaller size is significantly a better price per ounce deal if you can get good shipping terms.
